Art in Public Places

Coves and Headlands Windbreak wall with attached seating and 2 freshwater showers.

Commissioned by Circular Heads Council for Kings Park in Stanley Tasmania, and managed by Arts@work.
The curved stone wall is capped with curved treated radiata pine wood. The wooden capping protects the top of the wall from its stones loosening and provides a pleasing rough and smooth contrast with the rough basalt rock surface. Six benches, each 3 metres in length, are attached to the sides of the wall.

Kim collaborated with sculptor Sandra Lancaster who produced cast aluminium star fish, Water Stars, for the showerheads and tap handles. She also made the coloured cement shower bases featuring seaweed motives.

The wall has been well received by local residents and visitors and has led to further art in public places commissions.
Seen from the top of The Nut, the wall has a striking presence and mimics the coastline's many coves and headlands.
